CAAI4SA Brings Drone and Rover Demonstration to Hampton Elementary Summer Camp

The Center of Applied Artificial Intelligence for Sustainable Agriculture, also known as CAAI4SA, recently had the opportunity to visit Hampton Elementary School for a summer camp demonstration in the Lowcountry region of South Carolina State University 1890 Research & Extension. The visit gave students a hands-on look at how new technologies such as drones, rovers, and RFID systems can be used to support the future of agriculture.

During the demonstration, Mr. Van introduced students to the RFID drone and explained how drone technology can be used in agricultural settings. He showed the students how drones can assist farmers by collecting information, improving efficiency, and supporting smarter decision-making in the field. The students were able to see the drone up close while learning how technology is becoming an important part of modern farming.

In addition to the drone demonstration, Jayvion Snow and Ms. Christina worked with students to showcase the rover. The rover demonstration helped students understand how ground-based technology can be used on farms for tasks such as field monitoring, data collection, and supporting farmers with day-to-day operations. To make the experience even more engaging, students were given the opportunity to drive the rover themselves, allowing them to connect directly with the technology.

This event was not only an educational experience but also an opportunity to spark curiosity among young students. By seeing drones and rovers in action, students were introduced to the connection between agriculture, artificial intelligence, robotics, and innovation. Demonstrations like this help show that agriculture is more than traditional farming; it is also a field filled with science, technology, engineering, and problem-solving.

CAAI4SA is committed to supporting communities across South Carolina through research, education, training, and outreach. Events like the Hampton Elementary summer camp demonstration allow the center to introduce students to agricultural technology at an early age while also showing how these tools can help farmers improve productivity, sustainability, and efficiency.

Through partnerships with South Carolina State University 1890 Research & Extension, CAAI4SA will continue working to educate students, farmers, and communities about the role of artificial intelligence and advanced technology in the future of agriculture.
